I'm not slim. In fact, over the past few years I've started looking a lot more like Chris Farley than I'd like so over the past couple weeks I've been eating better and taking nearly daily walks with my mother and have dropped 8 lbs off of my elephantine girth.
There is a town near me called Lafayette and there is a trail, an old railroad bed, that goes for miles and miles through NJ..something like 50 miles I think. We start at Lafayette Village and usually walk about 90 minutes or so. It's a dirt trail that goes through the woods, past farms and a pond with about 75 turtles in it, and crosses some streams with lots of wildlife to see. Really a very nice way to get out and exercise a bit.
That is, until yesterday when an old woman came walking briskly down the trail. She was probably at least 85 years old, snow-white hair and carrying a poodle! The nearest cross road was probably 2 or 3 hundred yards away and there was no car parked there either. I don't know how far she had walked but it had to be a long way, and carrying a poodle. Not bad for a woman in her 80's!
I think mom and I need to step up our efforts!

congrats on losing 8lbs!!! thats wonderful!
Way to be! I've lost 12 myself the last two weeks and I just know the both of us can keep it up! What a riot it must have been...the lady with the poodle! If only we can be as energetic and determined at that age, we shall be in good shape!
Thanks for sharing your blog with me today - was a fantastic read!

My mother is in her seventies... when people offer her a seat on public transport she accepts out of politeness while I try and not laugh. She is in better shape than I! Now wait... maybe it was my mother on that trail...
congrats on the weight loss!
